Libby Crabtree – Musical Director
Libby began her musical training at Cambridge where she sang in Clare chapel choir. She has since enjoyed a varied career, ranging from musicals in London’s West End (Assistant MD of “Return to the Forbidden Planet”) to performances with many early music groups including The Sixteen, The Tallis Scholars and Polyphony. Tours with these groups have taken her across the world to Japan, New Zealand, America and Brazil. Her solo oratorio performances in Europe have enabled her to work closely with conductors like Harry Christophers, John Rutter and Stephen Cleobury. With this unique experience, Libby brings a special perspective to rehearsals and is able to coach her choirs, improving technique and enhancing vocal ability whilst conducting in a friendly style, sympathetic to singers!
Libby divides her time between teaching (Head of Music at Edinburgh Academy Junior School), adjudicating in local festivals, and conducting the newly formed Tollcross Community choir. She examined for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for many years and enjoys arranging and composing her own choral pieces which the choir perform.
Libby is very excited to have been appointed musical director of Jubilo – one of Edinburgh’s foremost amateur choral groups – and looks forward to a happy future of music making.
