For our Autumn Concert this year, we presented a variety of choral music, with the proceeds going to the Enlighten charity. Enlighten is an Edinburgh based group providing support and assistance to epilepsy sufferers in the local area. This was an evening of song to suit all tastes. Sacred and secular, accompanied and unaccompanied, classical and modern. Before the interval there were Negro Spirituals, excerpts from Haydn's Creation, Holst's setting of Psalm 86 and Randall Thomson's Alleluia. This last piece, by a contemporary American composer who may not be immediately familiar to most, is an unusual, moving and chorally demanding setting. In lighter vein, the second part of the concert ranged from Elizabethan through American and Latvian folk, 30's jazz and 50's schmaltz to Lennon & McCartney. The concert was much enjoyed by an appreciative audience. It's always a real pleasure for the choir to make music and, at the same time, assist a local organisation in their charitable work.
