Brahms German Requiem
Saturday March 28th, 2015 7:30 p.m.
St Cuthbert's Parish Church.
£12 / £10 concessions.
Brahms' "German Requiem" completed in 1867, is one of the towering works of the choral repertoire, a work of great beauty and power. It was written after the death of his mother and his close friend Robert Schumann. It is not a liturgical Latin Mass for the Dead like the famous works of Mozart, Verdi and Fauré. Instead it is a setting of Biblical texts in his native German uttering words of consolation and hope for the mourners reflecting on the continuing life and influence of the departed.
Conducted by their Musical Director, Walter Thomson. Jubilo are joined by the Edinburgh Players and by distinguished local soloists, soprano Susan McNaught and baritone Ivor Klayman.
